Greendale Playschool, Inc. is an independent, non-profit preschool governed by a volunteer board of directors. Resources are focused toward providing instruction, guidance and training for young children. The goal of the website is to inform families of the school’s history, philosophies, organizational structure, educational techniques, curriculum, enrollment procedures, parent opportunities, and contact information. Rephase objectives included improving content presentation, allowing multiple users to administer & maintain content, and presenting information to mobile users.
I volunteered with Greendale Playschool for several years, including serving on its' Board as Chairperson, Fundraising Chair and Publicity Chair. During my time as Publicity Chair, I created the school's current logo, designed the newsletter, refined the school's handbook and performed the first major rephase on the school's original site using a CMS provided by the school's hosting agent. During this rephase, I developed the written content and structure of the site. Later, as a student at Milwaukee Area Technical College, I volunteered to update the site's visuals and user interface. Initially, I concepted a site with HTML & CSS; however, after reviewing the school's needs, I determined a CMS would be a better fit.
The rephased design uses a basic color scheme which mirrors the school's one-color printing approach to flyers and handouts. Since privacy is a concern, photography was kept to a minimum and student artwork was highlighted. I develop the website using Wordpress with a modified template. Members of the school's board now administer the site.
